Johnny Depp And Amber Heard’s Case Review (A Mental Health Focused Review)

Who doesn’t want to live a love story? Love makes you glow and shine; it gives you wings to soar the skies and you feel you hold the world in your hands. But, of course, you don’t want your love story to finish in a courtroom like that of Johnny Deep and Amber Heard.

Let’s start from the beginning. Heard and Depp first met on the set of The Rum Diary and started dating in 2012. After some years, they got married in 2015. After only 15 months of marriage, Heard filed for a divorce. She got a temporary restraining order against Depp, saying that he abused her when he was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. In 2019, Depp sued his ex-wife for $50 million for defamation over a Washington post where Heard referred to herself as “ a public figure representing domestic abuse”. Depp, on the other hand, denied all claims of abuse, revealing that he is the real victim of domestic violence.

Depp’s defamation case against Heard started in Virginia in April 2012. During the trial, Depp’s legal team successfully hired a forensic psychologist named Shannon Curry. The latter has revealed that Amber is suffering from both Borderline Personality Disorder as well as Histrionic Personality Disorder after12 hours of interviews.

The two personality disorders are similar according to Curry. Borderline Personality Disorder is a disease caused by instability. It is, as Curry said, “driven by an underlying fear of abandonment. People with it will make desperate attempts to prevent it from happening”. Some audio clips, which were introduced in the trial, showed Heard was begging and kissing Depp to stay with her after he showed a desire to separate.

Historic Personality Disorder, Curry claimed, is associated with “drama”, and the need to be the center of attention. The psychologist added that people with this mental disease “ utilize another look to get that attention”.

Los Angeles police officer, Melissa Saenz, testified that before Heard filed a divorce, she showed up at the courthouse to get a restraining order with a large mark on her face as a result of her fight with Depp. Depp’s lawyer said that the officer’s testimony clarifies that Heard has, in fact, faked her injury. In the same sense, Tara Roberts, the manager of Depp’s residence in the Bahamas said that she never saw bruises on Heard of any kind.

It is likely that Amber’s personality disorder is the real reason behind her action. A person who wants to try an intimate relationship with such a personality would go from “ idolized to dumpster”, “to be assaultive as partners’ Curry said.

This “love story” develops from the eagerness of the first meeting to a constant battle. This may be the outcome of different reasons, however, mental health issues can never be neglected.

As you read the story of Heard and Depp, which still makes the headlines now, ask yourself, what can I learn from it?

First, each story has an end, you choose your end, in a courtroom, or a cozy room. Also, mental health issues, if there is one, should be treated at the right time. Let your partner be your support, not your enemy.
